When the Cicadas Sing
The song of the cicadas
A sure sign that summer
Is fleeting by quickly
Better not slumber
Time has a way
Of flying past
Before you know it
Fall finds us fast
I've often pondered
Why the cicada's song pangs
A melancholy in my soul
A sadness that hangs
Is it a reminder
Of years past
When my kids started school
And days flew fast
No more slow mornings
Over pancakes and eggs
Or long firefly evenings
Roasting marshmallows over flames
I can only imagine school teachers
Suffering from P.T.S.D
Upon hearing the cicada's song
Way too early
